Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
An important representative said the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
